A couple of Awards!
As I said in my last blog, we had our 5th Birthday recently. On the Thursday just gone the new chef laid up a buffet, Ed worked his magic on the till making all pints a £1 cheaper, a couple of Open Mic performers arrived and a great evening was had by all!

What Bob and Sheila didn't realise was Ed had arranged for the local CAMRA branch to visit as well, for the presentation of the awards the pub has won. For the past two years, the pub has won Bronze in the local area's Pub of the Year competition. This year they won Silver!

Another surprise was that they had won the Cider Pub of the Year award as well - one of the local pubs that had regularly won it had recently changed hands, and the fact that we offer 3 ciders and a perry on draught all year, along with lots of local bottled ciders, put us in top place!
In other news, I'm enjoying my new-found fame. It's not easy when everyone in the town knows who you are, and wants to stop on the street to tickle my ears, but now I've got people coming in the pub to say hello. I've even been reviewed on the internet! So if you are in Hay, please do pop in to say hello, especially if you've got a dog who'd like to be my friend - I'm always happy to have my photo taken!

Nice time of the year

I like this time of year. The fire gets lit, candles come out on the tables and customers start getting excited about the Christmas period.
Speaking of which, we're not usually allowed to say 'Christmas' so early in the year, but the menus are now up and bookings being taken, so I should be ok.

Some of my friends have been over to see me, which is always nice, getting to play a bit in the bar before a long walk. I also got a tip from some customers - £5 to get a pound of sausages when they checked out!
Anyway, must run before some other dog takes my place infront of the fire grrrrr!
